As a work from home marketer I started my business with static websites but once blogs came on the scene I gave blogging a try. I loved the idea of a blog and found it so easy to update which wasn’t the case with my static sites.

Before long I was converting my static sites into blog and the rest is history. I also found that search engines, like Google, love blogs, probably because they are updated so frequently. Just a couple of months I had better ranking than any of my non-blog sites.

Since then blogging has seen more and more attention and quickly grew into a great way to communicate with your visitors. I’m into affiliate marketing as a work from home marketer but not every one has a blog for profit.

Whatever your reason for blogging you can always benefit from a few blogging tips that will help you get more visitors. After all it’s a real pain to write content that no one sees, right. It’s kind of a blow to the ego and self esteem. Might as well get it right if you’re going to blog.

1. It’s All About The Blog Post Title

When people are using search engines to find what they are looking for they will be shown sites based on their search criteria in the search results page. It’s your blog post page title that is shown and needs to be keyword focused as well as catchy enough to attract the click.

I pass right over many sites listed in search results because the title doesn’t match my search criteria, even though they were listed. It’s so worth your time to come up with a title that will grab me by the eyes and make me click it.

Example: I am looking for some helpful tips about bass fishing and search Google for the phrase ‘bass fishing tips’. When I look at the listings I look for titles that match my search text. If the first site listed says ‘Bass Fishing Boat Tips’ I might just ignore it and move down the listing until I see something closer, such as, ‘The Bass Fishing Tips That Netted Me My First Trophy’.

If you can’t get people to click your listing you need to work on your blog post titles.

2. Add A Description And Tags

All my self hosted blogs are WordPress blogs. I like them because I can have so many great themes, a different one for every blog if I want. But I also focus on SEO by using my favourite plugin called All-In-One SEO.

I make sure I add a keyworded description and keywords. Next I add relevant tags under the tag section.

The combination of your keywords and tags make it easier for search engines to determine your real focus.

3. Use Headings To Break Up Text

As a work from home blogger I put in a lot of time reading and learning from other blogs. I, like so many others, tend to be in a hurry most of the time and I can’t stand looking at an entire page of text with no breaks.

I don’t care to read through too much fluff and want to get to the meat of the post or article. For this reason I like to see heading that not only break up a page of text but also indicate what’s in the following text.

Keyword your headings and you will find search engines love your blog even more. Add in our next tip and you have real power in your blogging.

4. A Picture Says A Thousand Words

That’s me on the right. I didn’t have time to comb my hair so please excuse me. Okay it’s a picture from our last Halloween. It was fun watching the expressions on kids faces when they saw this open the door.

Yes headings are important and great for quickly scanning an article or post for the info you need.

You can also add images to your post. An image can say a lot but using the ALT tag with images allows you to say more by adding a keyworded phrase, which the search engines can read.

A picture is also a great way to break up your post and adds value to your post as it can keep your reader reading longer. The longer you can keep your visitor on a page the more likely they are to click a link or banner ad and you make money.

5. Get Your Reader Involved In Your Post

I love it when my readers take an interest in my blog post and take the time to leave a blog comment. When I am writing blog posts I want to get my readers taking part so I try to word my content so that they will want to make a comment and get involved.

I also do my best to offer content my readers like enough to return in the future for more. As a work from home affiliate marketer this is part of how I make my living. If I can’t get return visitors it’s unlikely I will make money as people don’t usually buy on the first visit, sometimes not even until they have returned 5 or 6 times.

This is part of why it’s important to keep your niche focus and don’t go off topic much. I have left many blogs because they strayed too far from their niche and I lost interest.

What’s a blogging tip you can add that would help others be better bloggers?

Today I work from home as a blogger. I used to have many websites that I found hard to make a real living with and slowly started converting them to niche blogs and started making more money on a regular basis. Now there are countless numbers of blogs.

So would you be just wasting your time if you started a bog today? I sounds like it would hard to get any eyes on your blog posts, doesn’t it. Well I felt that way for a while but didn’t it anyways and I not only get traffic, I get target traffic that keeps increasing and I make money. It does take work and planning but it works.

1. Just Want To Say What Is On My Mind

Because I love fishing so much I started a fly fishing blog to share my fly fishing adventures. I wasn’t looking to make money. I just wanted to share what I know about fishing that keeps me so addicted. It didn’t’ take long before it was far more than just a fly fishing blog.

Before I knew it I had people asking if I would take them fishing and made a few new fishing buddies. Next I added some affiliate links for products I use and people started buying them and I was making money. But I started with the desire to just share what I know.

2. Long Distance Communicating Online

I like sharing ideas with like minded people and do just that with my blogs. I communicate with people all around the world, making new friends I may never actually meet. When you deal with like minded people it’s great to share ideas long distance.

I find a lot of blogs through niche related forums. It’s a great way to make new friends and get more targeted traffic to your own blog.

3. Finding Support For Your Cause

Blogs are ideal for those with a cause they want support for. What a great way to get the word out and it doesn’t have to be just your blog. Very quickly one blog post can pretty much become viral as your readers share with other bloggers.

After having a heart attack I started blogging about my condition and before I knew it I had more helpful info than I could ever read. I learned more in a few days of blogging than I had from my own doctor in months of visits.

4. Blogging Can Expand Minds

Blogs are great for sharing but I find blogging great for learning things and keeping my mind active with thoughts of hobbies and interest, like my acoustic guitar blog. I share what I learn which leads other like minded people to respond.

Many time their response, in the comment, leads me to other blogs where they share what they know and I learn more about playing guitar or fishing or gardening, what ever it is I am sharing and learning.

5. Use Your Blog To Really Help Others

I realized a long time ago that I don’t have to be an expert in a niche to help others through my blogs. I just need to share what I know and others who know less than I do kind of look at me as an expert. So really being an expert is subjective.

For twenty years I was a computer instructor. I taught courses at 3 levels, beginner, intermediate and advanced. Even those taking my beginner courses saw me as an expert and I was able to help hundreds and hundreds of people become more efficient with their software and computers.

This is why how to blogs can do so well. People want to know and blogs tend to get indexed pretty fast on search engines. The fact that blogs are usually updated by their owners far more often than the static type websites.

Today I have blogs in a variety of niches such as home gardening, how to play acoustic guitar, fly tying for fly fishing and even work from home blogs.

If A Niche Isn’t Competitive Is There Money In It

Really, when you think about it, online niche marketing has been going on for more than 10 years and is only going to become even more competitive. Competition can be fierce because marketers have been pounding the virtual sidewalk for years promoting using their niche related keywords.

If you happen to be new at marketing or stepping into a new niche this means you need to do some good keyword research before you begin. Finding the keywords you can rank for gives you a chance to break into a niche and over time you can even rank for top keywords, like I do.

YOUR Best Keywords Will Take Niche Research

I don’t start a website in any niche today before conducting the proper keyword research. The first goal should be to find the right keywords for your new niche focused domain name.

Let’s say you’re looking for gardening information and have ‘home gardening tips’ search results listed in Google. Which of the following domains would give you better vibes and more likely to be clicked?

1. backyardgardeningtips.com
2. homegardeningtips.com
3. hbb2obm.com

For me personally I would choose either #1 or #2 as they say gardening. The third looks like it was a domain used for something else. I always feel more like I’m on an authority site when the domain name is keyword focused toward the niche.

My advice would be to always research a domain name that is keyworded to your niche. Before you take off and buy that domain that’s been on your mind, there’s a bit more to go here.

People Tend To Think DOT COM Today

Most people today will have DOT COM pop into their head over any other extension used. It’s tough not to think DOT COM these days because we hear it day in and day out. I tell all my clients and friends to go for DOT COM domain about all others.

Because there are so many keyworded domains that are DOT COM it can be harder to find keywords to use in your domain and still have a DOT COM, so let me give you some ideas to help.

Add a suffix to the end of your keyword phrase.
Add a prefix to the beginning of your keyword phrase.
Suffix or prefix didn’t seem to work. It happens so now I would suggest you try a hyphen between two words.
Using your city or town is a great way to get keyworded domains using a suffix.

In closing the real key to online success using your own domain is the research you are willing to put in up front. I use a couple of paid tools for this which help me every day. I started my online business back in early 2001 and was making money rather quickly. Not over night mind you but within a few weeks. Back then I sold ebooks with reseller rights and did pretty good.

As a work from home marketer I tend to purchase keyworded domains I think I will use sometime, and then they sit earning nothing until I do, but not any more, not since learning I can make money with my parked domains through the Google Adsense program.

I’m not alone when it comes to purchasing domains that don’t get used. I have even allowed them to sit for an entire year and then have to renew them and yet still haven’t earned any money so no more of that, starting today. Start making some extra income with those domains while you decide what to do with them, even if it takes you a year to do so.

Today I make money with those parked domains which only took me a couple of minutes to learn how. Just a couple more minutes setting things up and they were ready to start earning for my work from home business.

Today I don’t hesitate to purchase the keyworded domain names that grab my interest because I just point them to Google until I do have time. So much smarter than letting them collect virtual dust. Okay, now on to…

How I Setup My Parked Domains To Earn Income

The first thing I had to do was make sure I had one site that was of quality so that I would easily be accepted into the Google Adsense program and I was accepted. I have had a few friends that didn’t get accepted and asked for my assistance. They had awful sites with duplicate content and ads all over the place.

My advice is to leave the ads off the pages until you’ve been approved and don’t use duplicate content. Take the time to rewrite it until it’s uniquely yours. Then try getting approved again.

I use the Google Adsense ad blocks in key locations on my pages to get the best results but it’s different with Adsense for Domains. With this you point your domain to Google and let them take it over and show the entire site as a Google Adsense site.

All my domain purchases are at GoDaddy.com as they are affordable and tech support has never let me down. At GoDaddy all I have to do is point my domains to Google by changing the DNS setting. That info will be given to you by Google once you’re accepted into their program.

Once the DNS values have been changed it’s up to Google to show ads on that domain and your job to spend the money wisely.

I know it can be intimidating and a bit scary doing something new for the first time. I lived in a complete stressed state for a long time, so let me find a video on Youtube that should help out.

Setting Up Google Adsense For Parked Domains

See that wasn’t so bad was it. Now that you know how you can do it in just a minute or two for all your domains and any new ones you purchase, if you’re not using them right away of course. Heck even if you only make enough to keep your domains renewed until you use them it’s worth it.

Like most people I enjoy my hobbies. As a matter of fact for my entire life I have always wanted to make money with my hobbies. It just wasn’t happening until the Internet came along and my dreams started becoming a reality. Today I make most of my income from my hobbies.

Let me ask you a couple of questions. 1) Do you have an Internet connection? 2) How about at least one hobby you and others spend money on? If you answered yes to both questions you could work from home and make money online like I do as the two work so well together today.

Personally I have found most of my hobbies and interests can make money and they do. I didn’t start my work from home business around my hobbies but instead my interest for building websites. It wasn’t until about 5 or 6 years later I started focusing on my hobbies and affiliate marketing.

Hobbies I Make Money Blogging About

1. Sport Fishing

Fishing means a lot to me. I have been enjoying fishing since I was a young boy of about 8 and was hooked as they say immediately.

I was introduced to fishing after 3 years of being moved from one foster home to another before being placed on a farm in Ontario where an older foster brother took me under his wing.

Taking me fishing and just being there changed my life for the better as it gave me an outlet for my frustrations and building anger issues. So you can imagine how close to my heart fishing is. The Joy of Fishing

2. Home Gardening

While living on the farm we had a huge vegetable garden, so big that my foster dad used to work it with the big farm equipment used for the fields. Even though it was a lot of hard work I fell in love with gardening and couldn’t wait until I had a garden of my own.

Well that took about another 30 years before I owned home with a yard we could plant a vegetable garden in and now I have my own little home vegetable garden I blog about. It’s actually my most profitable blog.

BTW: I don’t have just one site in each of the niches I blog about. I have 3 fishing sites and 2 home gardening blogs.

3. Playing Acoustic Guitar

I have no natural talent for playing music and what I know came very hard. I tried learning guitar back in the early 70s, long before the Internet was available. That didn’t go well at all but you can read about that on my Learn How To Play Acoustic Guitar blog.

The next one is not so much a hobby as something I needed to learn in order to control our son’s over active pit bull Honey.

4. Problem Puppy Training Tips

When our son came home one day with a pit bull he had rescued from the SPCA I had mixed feelings to say the least. My first reaction was anger. I couldn’t believe he would bring home a dog that would most likely eat us in our sleep.

On the other hand the fact he rescued her from certain death kind of melted my stone heart and we now have a big baby called Honey that’s so much a part of our family that it will hurt to see them move out.

I had some training to do as she was abused and needed some guidance and is a big part of the reason I started Effective Puppy Training Moncton.

5. Travel in New Brunswick

Traveling is something that both my wife and myself love to do. Loving it and getting the opportunity to travel is a whole other thing. We did do a bit while our son was growing up but work schedules made it tough.

We are now at retirement age and eager to start traveling once again, this time just the two of us and we can’t wait. Our Travel New Brunswick blog is only just getting started because we are only just getting started.

Well those are five of the niches I work from home to make my living online. What’s really cool about blogging about one’s hobbies and making money is that it gives me more money I can spend enjoying my hobbies.

New marketers and bloggers for profit should know that being a work at home marketer and blogger takes a time, research, work and dedication to make it really profitable.

I love it because it gives me the freedom I have actually dreamed of having. For me personally it is all so worth the investment of my time and the effort I put into it.

Work From Home – The Daily Commute

It’s always been a dream to set my own work schedule and today I get up and work when I feel like it. I am an early riser and always found it such a drag to have to wait hours before I had to be at work. I love the daily commute to my work from home office. It takes about 3 minutes and that includes plugging in the coffee kettle and turning on the computer.

The rest of the commute is hitting the bathroom to freshen up for the day. One more stop to get that first cup of java and I’m off to my work from home office, a 20 second commute.

First I Like To Dump And Spam Emails

I use the time it takes to check my email for spam and dump it. It’s a great time to get my brain in gear for the day. It’s so nice to work from home and have that coffee to charge me up.

Next it’s time see what real email I have received overnight and scan them for important emails first. I love seeing guest posts requests from other like-minded work from home marketers. Having guest bloggers in my niches sure saves me a ton of time each day.

Having a dozen blogs going I get a fair bit of email so it’s always nice once I have brought it under control for the day.

Review Guest Blog Posts In Email

It’s important to me that I put guest posts into a separate folder where I can check them over before either accepting or rejecting. Those authors who haven’t met my requirements get an email reply letting them know what needs to be changed.

Not all guest posts are acceptable and must be rejected. I really don’t care for rejecting articles however it’s my work from home business and the rules have to be followed. I am happy to say most have no problem following the guidelines and I get a lot of great guest blog posts for my blogs.

Once this phase of my day is complete I have usually consumed at least 2 cups of java. I’m glad I drink mostly decaf or I’d be climbing the walls by noon.

Guests Post Are Put On A Publishing Schedule

The spam is now gone and guest bloggers have had their article checked. I have replied to any guest bloggers who didn’t make the cut to give them something to work on while I am working with the articles I did accept.

Because I use WordPress for my blogs I can schedule my posts to appear when I want them to so that I don’t need to be home at any specific time and still have content appearing on a regular basis. This means I can be fishing for the day and still have articles published.

Note: I personally use Windows Live Writer so that I can work my articles from my desktop and only publish them when I have I’m ready. Windows Live Writer is much the same as a word processor making it easy to work with.

I have many articles in various stages of writing using Live Writer and only publish or schedule once I’m satisfied with them.

Articles Published Need To Be Keyword Focused

Now my work from home day moves on to publishing affiliate marketing related articles with keyword varied backlinks pointing to relevant pages.

Publish To High PageRank Article Directories

I like publishing to EzineArticles.com as the first article directory I publish to. The reason being, EA is the strictest when it comes to accepting articles. Once my article has been accepted, which doesn’t take long once you’ve been a member in good standing for a while, I spin the article into multiple new articles and publish them to the other top article directories.

Note: In the resource box or author box for the article directories I leave a little relevant details about myself along with a link to a relevant page on my niche related site which matches my article content.

Relevant Blog Commenting

Commenting on other people’s blogs nets me a lot of traffic as well as guest blog requests. Using blog commenting is a great way to get target traffic that doesn’t come from search engines. However it doesn’t happen with comments like, ‘great post’ or ‘I like the information here’.

I make blog commenting work for me because I do one of two things. 1) ask questions based on the blog post or 2) I add a value added comment, meaning I add to the blog post by maybe adding another tips to their 5 tips. What you want to accomplish here is to get your comment read by the owner and blog readers.

I like to be first to add a comment if I can or maybe second or third. It’s way better than being number 43 to comment. I use a feed reader to keep track of blogs so I can be first.

I Started Hiring Writers To Create My Content

I do keep a rather busy schedule and even though I have guest bloggers to help out I still find I need more content. The articles I don’t need for my blogs I spin into more great articles to publish on other sites for backlinking.

After using a few services to get articles written I found them just too expensive. Then I found Iwriter.com where articles are very affordable. I was more than impressed as I could make a request for content I need yesterday and I also have someone that writes an article in record time.

I could get articles a bit cheaper at iwriter.com but I prefer using the better rated writers and am willing to pay a little more. I still get my articles written for just $5.00 each. I can take my new article and either publish it right away or I can take a few minutes and spin it into more articles. I started with BuildMyRank through their free trial where I could have 10 free links. I signed up and added my top 5 domains and then add an article for each domain along with 2 links. I created and had 6 articles published with my links included on sites with PR2-PR4. Once the articles were published it was only two or three days before they were indexed.

Many online marketers today who have work from blogs tend to work hard to come up with enough quality content to keep our blog up-to-date and with enough backlinks to help increase our page rank for both individual pages as well as our main domain.

Personally, I don’t just write articles for my work at home blog, I also write articles I can backlink to my work at home blog. To accomplish this and still maintain more than a dozen blogs in a variety of niches I turned to The Best Spinner which is my favourite article spinner today.

Five Article Spinning Guidelines

1. Today Spun Articles Have to Be 50% or More Unique

Of course I like to start with a quality article I’ve written. That has to be my starting point. From there it’s what I do with that quality and unique article.

For years it was acceptable to spin articles about 30% unique but that’s not the case today. I went from spinning articles to 30% up to 50%, then 60% and today I like to spin articles until they are pretty much 100% unique.

Note: The extra time I spend making my articles as close to 100% unique while keeping the focus of my articles is time well spent.

2. Don’t Spam Your Keywords, Keep The Density Low

When you have keywords on your mind and you’re using an article spinner like The Best Spinner it’s easy to go wild with them which tends to look spammy. That reminds me of a client I had that didn’t get the point about keyword density and send me an article that was more than 50% keywords.

In the years since I started my work from home business I have written a lot of articles and put a lot of focus on keyword density. In that time I have found that a keyword density of between 3 and 7 percent usually works fine, leaving lots of room for other words.

3. Don’t Spin Out Your Keywords

I used to use article networks for a lot of my content but as time went on the articles started becoming less quality and more quantity. I was getting the same articles day after day, even though I rejected them, except they were just another spun version of those I rejected.

That was taking more and more of my time until finally I just dropped them all together and started spinning my own content.

The worst thing about the articles is that most had their keywords spun into NON money keywords and as if that’s not bad enough they would even allow the title to spun to death. That was the last straw and I stopped using them.

Keep your keywords in tact and that means your title to, as it’s what we see in the search engines and most I wouldn’t click at all.

4. Keyworded Anchor Text Is Essential Today

Keywords and backlinking should go hand in hand for best results, plain and simple. This again is a problem for most I see using article spinners like The Best Spinner because they allow their spinner to spin what should be their keyworded anchor text.

It’s not only important that you don’t destroy your keywords when spinning articles but you also need to spin your anchor text. The key is to only use keywords that are money keywords. So they are varied for great search results and more traffic as the search engines love natural looking linking.

5. Use At Least Two Backlinks Article

For better indexing and ranking of my pages I like backlinks pointing to my sites to link to an internal page, called deep linking, as well as a backlink pointing to the main page of my site.
