It a very common thing for work from home marketers new and old to slip up a bit when it comes to article marketing and using proper SEO or search engine optimization.

Following the steps listed below you should be able to stay on track and have your pages indexed so you can receive target traffic you can earn money through. Just a little SEO and you’re on your way.

1. Keyword Stuffing

This reminds of two particular clients. I explained that they needed to use specific keywords and phrases known as keywords so that the major search engines would pick them up and index their pages so they could be found in the search engines.

Well they both sent me back pages of content that we so stuffed with their keywords that they made me laugh. At first I thought both of them were having fun with me but they weren’t. That’s when I explained keyword density.

I also asked them if they would stay on pages that were stuffed like that. That was when they started to understand about keyword density and keyword stuffing.

I told them they could have a keyword density of about 3-5% without any keyword stuffing or spamming.

Next I explained it was best to spread the keywords across their articles and blog posts. Start with your keyword phrase in the first hundred or a hundred and fifty words. Usually the first paragraph or sentence. Then again halfway through and again in the last paragraph. Make it look natural of course, as you would expect to read a post or article.

Really the goal is to keep your readers or visitors happy with your article yet using your keyword enough for the search engines to know your focus, without spamming.

2. Use Headings To Break Up Content

I land on webpages pretty much daily where the content is just one solid block of text. No breaks other than paragraph breaks and that makes it harder to read and find things you’re looking for.

Instead of making it tough on your readers which often leads to them leaving your page early and before getting to the click you so need to succeed, break your article into sections using headings like I have done in this article.

• Use heading
• Use paragraph
• Use numbering
• Use bullet lists
• Use numbered lists

3. Fix Typos And Grammar Errors

Some people use typos as a tactic to get traffic from those who misspell key words when typing search text in search engines. Not a tactic I choose to use on purpose because I don’t like seeing typos on a page.

When I see too many I think they are using it as a tactic which I don’t care for or I think they really have a problem using their spell checker and often just leave the page and site with no intention of returning. I feel people lose more than they gain using a typo tactic.

I understand that we have many many users online today that have English as their second or even third language, which impresses me all to heck but it doesn’t help if they don’t use a grammar checker or someone proof read their documents.

4. Misuse of Article Spinners

I personally use The Best Spinner to help me rewrite articles so I can publish them online without the duplicate content problem. I use TBS but I don’t use it’s auto features. I pick each synonym individually so my articles read like a human wrote them.

I think one of the biggest problems today is the misuse of article spinners and writing for search engines only. Not thinking about your visitors trying to read crap articles may get you the traffic your want but they won’t stay when they can’t make sense of your content.

For me personally article spinners work great, save me an amazing amount of time. I get the more traffic and they stay on my pages. Because of this my pagerank increases and I make my living.

So, for me The Best Spinner has been a great investment.

Note: I use a feature TBS has that allows me to protect my keywords from being spun. This is such a powerful option and makes a huge difference in the type of traffic I receive.

I love the idea of guest blogging and find it’s a great way to get that exposure your webpages need for you to succeed as a work from home blogger. I feel it’s perfect for those who don’t want to spend more money promoting their website.

As a guest blogger you will be able to publish posts on many other blogs in your niche, of course your articles must be accepted by the blog owner so they need to be quality blog posts worthy of publishing. This works great for me and I get a lot more target traffic today because of the time I invest in guest blogging.

I don’t even bother with blogs that don’t relate to my own blog, in some way. The thing is, even if you get published on non-related blogs, you aren’t likely to get target traffic and because of that your results won’t be as they should be. Stick to being a guest blogger on relevant blogs.

Reputation Is Everything Today

My advice is to skip the blogs that have a poor reputation as you don’t want any of that rubbing off on your site. Instead take the time to find quality blogs to associate with as a guest blogger and you will have more positive results.

Reputation can be assumed or passed on by association and is a big reason why you should avoid sites with bad reputations or spammy sites.

Choose Blogs That Are Active

I see a lot of blogs that interest me at first but once I look at them I notice they don’t publish very often which is a red flag to me. I want to guest blog on relevant blogs that are actively blogging regularly, a minimum of two blog posts a week or better.

Then you have the blogs that accept every article that comes their way, good or bad. This is just as bad as having a blog with too few updates as it can look very spammy to the search engine bots that visit them.

Example: On my blogs I show the last 10 posts and I only publish 5 articles a week max, guest posts included. This means anyone guest blogging on my blogs has their blog post showing for at least a week.

Now don’t get me wrong here. I still guest post on blogs that have a lot of articles published, as long as they maintain a good pagerank and stay relevant.

As work from home bloggers we need to learn how get the best results, meaning targeted traffic, from each guest post you have published. Article marketing through guest blogging is such a great way to do. Make it a part of your marketing goals and stay relevant and on topic.

Article marketing is a powerful method of online marketing and a big part of my work from home business day. It’s not just about writing articles or everyone would be making a great living online.

Article marketing goes beyond just writing for your blog or website, if the goal is to blog for profit. This is going to take a strong backlinking campaign in order to get ranked higher in the search engines today. I use article marketing for backlinking because it’s easier to get people to accept a good keyworded article than it is to get a backlink on their site.

You’ve likely heard that content is king and I agree 100% but content with a couple of links pointing back to your main page and inner pages is even better.

The thing is I can barely keep up with writing content for the blogs I already have, so writing content for other blogs is very time consuming. I just couldn’t get it all done and I could see things starting to slide if I didn’t get more backlinking done.

I checked out iwriter a few times and didn’t bother with it because I didn’t think I could get quality content at such a low cost. Of course I was getting further behind and had already tried getting free content from article networks but that took me longer than if I wrote the content myself as most of it is so over spun it doesn’t even read like a human wrote.

So I decide to spend the money and see what I could get for an article at iwriter.com and was completely surprised with the results. It was great content and they made good use of my keywords.

Now I just head over to Iwriter and make requests for articles and then get on with my day. No more hours wasted trying to find free articles with good content.

The key with Iwriter is that I can reject any articles and the author doesn’t make a cent so it’s in their best interest to write quality content if they want to make money and that works for me.

I have been a work from home blogger for a few years now and spend a lot of time focused on getting links pointing back to my webpages to help increase my page rank.

I have enough websites on the go now that I can’t keep up with the backlinking campaigns I had planned so I do use link building services to help me out periodically.

When I am writing content to publish I am always thinking about backlinking and keywords I will use for my backlinks because today it’s all about remaining relevant in the eyes of the search engines.

Focus Your Backlinks On Relevant Sites

Once I learned about good backlinking habits it began to make more sense to focus my backlinking to relevant sites only. Why would I waste hours of my time trying to get links from non-relevant sites.

I have a few home gardening tips blogs I need backlinks to so I can increase my site’s popularity and page rank for more top listing in Google. Why would I even bother thinking about getting links from sites that aren’t even close to my niche.

Make Your Backlink Text Keyword Varied

A good backlinking company should know to make your links keyworded and natural, using a variety of backlink text. The variety text for the hyperlinks is extremely natural but many just use one keyword phrase and then have hundreds of them all the same which looks very un-natural to the top search engines.

Be sure you or the backlink service you hire us natural linking and get linked from many different sites as well, such as news sites in your niche, relevant product websites, sites with pagerank, even some new websites. Don’t forget to use sites like Facebook, Squidoo and Twitter.

I don’t just comment on other sites to get backlinks from sites. Well actually yes I do but I take it to the next level by always leaving value added comments the owner isn’t going to delete. That added value in my comments nets me a lot of extra traffic directly from the site. Usually it’s targeted traffic because I link from relevant sites.

You may have noticed I use the word related or relevant a lot and for good reason. Relevant linking works so much better for me personally and the major search engines look for relevancy.

Using Article Marketing For Backlinking

Part of my backlinking strategy includes using backlinking services but I don’t have them do it all. I do what I can and for me that means writing and publishing keyworded articles around the Internet.

When article marketing I like to write first for EzineArticles.com as they are the most strict when it comes to article directories. Once I’ve been accepted I can rewrite the article and publish it on the other top article directories.

Part of my article marketing strategy is to use guest blogging as a methods of backlinking on relevant sites.

I have found I get better results when I guest blog on blogs with pagerank but it can be tougher getting a guest blogging gig on a blog with higher pagerank so make certain you produce a quality and helpful post the blog owner will want his or her readers to see.

I offer guest blogging on my own blogs and I will usually only give a person one second chance to produce quality. If they can’t satisfy on the second attempt they usually get another opportunity.

For this reason it’s best to look through the blog you wish to guest blog on and see what they have already.  This should give you a good idea of what they expect as far as content and quality go.

Guest blogging is a great and powerful opportunity so take your time and do it right the first time.

Blogging success takes proper keyword research and takes time. Using paid tools like Keyword Elite is how I get the task of keyword research done faster and more efficiently but it still takes time to find the best keywords for right now, not 2 years down the road.

Know that you are looking for your best keywords, not the top keywords that top marketers have been using for 10 years. It’s going to take a long time to out rank them if you’re only starting now.

Get the keywords right and then be sure to give your readers what they are looking for and that’s usually helpful and informative blog posts. But it doesn’t stop there. You also have to keep your readers on your site long enough for them to click through so you make money or get a new subscriber, something positive.

What does matter however if that you know how to SEO or optimize your articles (posts) for search engines in order to get as much targeted traffic as it takes to meet your goal. For me, as a I work from home and blog for profit it’s about making money.

Keep Your Reader Long Enough To Get The Click

1. Oh Many My Eyes Are Burning

I’ve seen a lot of pages, not just blogs, that are not designed for human readers. I am not sure what would posses someone to choose a colour scheme that makes it next to impossible to read their page. Well I don’t I just put on my sunglasses and click the back button or close the  window.

The first thing you need to do, other than the proper research of course, is to make your site visually appealing to your visitor.

2. Get To The Point Before I Just Leave

I don’t mind a story or some humour, actually I like that but only to a point. If I am visiting your blog for a specific reason, like learning something new, like when I am on a fact finding mission, I don’t usually want to waste my time getting through content to find that info.

Two things help me. One, break your article into sections using headings. It makes it easier for me to locate that info I’m looking for. Second, don’t use a lot of filler, just get to the point and you’re likely to get me to the click. Plus I’m likely to return again.

3. Keyword Density Shouldn’t Become Spamming

Search engine optimization or SEO is important and that include how you use your keywords. Don’t go wild and put your keyword in every sentence thinking it will get you more traffic. It might just backfire and be seen as spam by search engines, which can result in your page going in the opposite direction.

You may see your page go deeper in the search rankings and you get less targeted traffic, which costs you money.

Personally I like to have a keyword density of between 2 and 6 percent meaning for every one hundred words you would use your keyword 2 to 6 times.

People that get overly spammy with their keywords usually aren’t writing for humans and tend to use article spinner to help them get quantity of content over quality. Don’t get me wrong, I use The Best Spinner and love it however I write each article for my human visitors.

When I land on a page that is written for the search engines specifically I usually see words and phrases that don’t fit the context because the blogger didn’t’ bother to proof read the results. Most often I leave those pages and never return as I am not a search engine.

Blogging for profit is not that tough, but it does take a keyword focus and avoid writing for search engines, keeping your human target visitors in mind at all times as they are your bread and butter if you’re a work from home blogger, blogging for profit like I do.

As a work from home marketer I started my business with static websites but once blogs came on the scene I gave blogging a try. I loved the idea of a blog and found it so easy to update which wasn’t the case with my static sites.

Before long I was converting my static sites into blog and the rest is history. I also found that search engines, like Google, love blogs, probably because they are updated so frequently. Just a couple of months I had better ranking than any of my non-blog sites.

Since then blogging has seen more and more attention and quickly grew into a great way to communicate with your visitors. I’m into affiliate marketing as a work from home marketer but not every one has a blog for profit.

Whatever your reason for blogging you can always benefit from a few blogging tips that will help you get more visitors. After all it’s a real pain to write content that no one sees, right. It’s kind of a blow to the ego and self esteem. Might as well get it right if you’re going to blog.

1. It’s All About The Blog Post Title

When people are using search engines to find what they are looking for they will be shown sites based on their search criteria in the search results page. It’s your blog post page title that is shown and needs to be keyword focused as well as catchy enough to attract the click.

I pass right over many sites listed in search results because the title doesn’t match my search criteria, even though they were listed. It’s so worth your time to come up with a title that will grab me by the eyes and make me click it.

Example: I am looking for some helpful tips about bass fishing and search Google for the phrase ‘bass fishing tips’. When I look at the listings I look for titles that match my search text. If the first site listed says ‘Bass Fishing Boat Tips’ I might just ignore it and move down the listing until I see something closer, such as, ‘The Bass Fishing Tips That Netted Me My First Trophy’.

If you can’t get people to click your listing you need to work on your blog post titles.

2. Add A Description And Tags

All my self hosted blogs are WordPress blogs. I like them because I can have so many great themes, a different one for every blog if I want. But I also focus on SEO by using my favourite plugin called All-In-One SEO.

I make sure I add a keyworded description and keywords. Next I add relevant tags under the tag section.

The combination of your keywords and tags make it easier for search engines to determine your real focus.

3. Use Headings To Break Up Text

As a work from home blogger I put in a lot of time reading and learning from other blogs. I, like so many others, tend to be in a hurry most of the time and I can’t stand looking at an entire page of text with no breaks.

I don’t care to read through too much fluff and want to get to the meat of the post or article. For this reason I like to see heading that not only break up a page of text but also indicate what’s in the following text.

Keyword your headings and you will find search engines love your blog even more. Add in our next tip and you have real power in your blogging.

4. A Picture Says A Thousand Words

That’s me on the right. I didn’t have time to comb my hair so please excuse me. Okay it’s a picture from our last Halloween. It was fun watching the expressions on kids faces when they saw this open the door.

Yes headings are important and great for quickly scanning an article or post for the info you need.

You can also add images to your post. An image can say a lot but using the ALT tag with images allows you to say more by adding a keyworded phrase, which the search engines can read.

A picture is also a great way to break up your post and adds value to your post as it can keep your reader reading longer. The longer you can keep your visitor on a page the more likely they are to click a link or banner ad and you make money.

5. Get Your Reader Involved In Your Post

I love it when my readers take an interest in my blog post and take the time to leave a blog comment. When I am writing blog posts I want to get my readers taking part so I try to word my content so that they will want to make a comment and get involved.

I also do my best to offer content my readers like enough to return in the future for more. As a work from home affiliate marketer this is part of how I make my living. If I can’t get return visitors it’s unlikely I will make money as people don’t usually buy on the first visit, sometimes not even until they have returned 5 or 6 times.

This is part of why it’s important to keep your niche focus and don’t go off topic much. I have left many blogs because they strayed too far from their niche and I lost interest.

Work From Home – The Daily Commute

It’s always been a dream to set my own work schedule and today I get up and work when I feel like it. I am an early riser and always found it such a drag to have to wait hours before I had to be at work. I love the daily commute to my work from home office. It takes about 3 minutes and that includes plugging in the coffee kettle and turning on the computer.

The rest of the commute is hitting the bathroom to freshen up for the day. One more stop to get that first cup of java and I’m off to my work from home office, a 20 second commute.

First I Like To Dump And Spam Emails

I use the time it takes to check my email for spam and dump it. It’s a great time to get my brain in gear for the day. It’s so nice to work from home and have that coffee to charge me up.

Next it’s time see what real email I have received overnight and scan them for important emails first. I love seeing guest posts requests from other like-minded work from home marketers. Having guest bloggers in my niches sure saves me a ton of time each day.

Having a dozen blogs going I get a fair bit of email so it’s always nice once I have brought it under control for the day.

Review Guest Blog Posts In Email

It’s important to me that I put guest posts into a separate folder where I can check them over before either accepting or rejecting. Those authors who haven’t met my requirements get an email reply letting them know what needs to be changed.

Not all guest posts are acceptable and must be rejected. I really don’t care for rejecting articles however it’s my work from home business and the rules have to be followed. I am happy to say most have no problem following the guidelines and I get a lot of great guest blog posts for my blogs.

Once this phase of my day is complete I have usually consumed at least 2 cups of java. I’m glad I drink mostly decaf or I’d be climbing the walls by noon.

Guests Post Are Put On A Publishing Schedule

The spam is now gone and guest bloggers have had their article checked. I have replied to any guest bloggers who didn’t make the cut to give them something to work on while I am working with the articles I did accept.

Because I use WordPress for my blogs I can schedule my posts to appear when I want them to so that I don’t need to be home at any specific time and still have content appearing on a regular basis. This means I can be fishing for the day and still have articles published.

Note: I personally use Windows Live Writer so that I can work my articles from my desktop and only publish them when I have I’m ready. Windows Live Writer is much the same as a word processor making it easy to work with.

I have many articles in various stages of writing using Live Writer and only publish or schedule once I’m satisfied with them.

Articles Published Need To Be Keyword Focused

Now my work from home day moves on to publishing affiliate marketing related articles with keyword varied backlinks pointing to relevant pages.

Publish To High PageRank Article Directories

I like publishing to EzineArticles.com as the first article directory I publish to. The reason being, EA is the strictest when it comes to accepting articles. Once my article has been accepted, which doesn’t take long once you’ve been a member in good standing for a while, I spin the article into multiple new articles and publish them to the other top article directories.

Note: In the resource box or author box for the article directories I leave a little relevant details about myself along with a link to a relevant page on my niche related site which matches my article content.

Relevant Blog Commenting

Commenting on other people’s blogs nets me a lot of traffic as well as guest blog requests. Using blog commenting is a great way to get target traffic that doesn’t come from search engines. However it doesn’t happen with comments like, ‘great post’ or ‘I like the information here’.

I make blog commenting work for me because I do one of two things. 1) ask questions based on the blog post or 2) I add a value added comment, meaning I add to the blog post by maybe adding another tips to their 5 tips. What you want to accomplish here is to get your comment read by the owner and blog readers.

I like to be first to add a comment if I can or maybe second or third. It’s way better than being number 43 to comment. I use a feed reader to keep track of blogs so I can be first.

I Started Hiring Writers To Create My Content

I do keep a rather busy schedule and even though I have guest bloggers to help out I still find I need more content. The articles I don’t need for my blogs I spin into more great articles to publish on other sites for backlinking.

After using a few services to get articles written I found them just too expensive. Then I found Iwriter.com where articles are very affordable. I was more than impressed as I could make a request for content I need yesterday and I also have someone that writes an article in record time.

I could get articles a bit cheaper at iwriter.com but I prefer using the better rated writers and am willing to pay a little more. I still get my articles written for just $5.00 each. I can take my new article and either publish it right away or I can take a few minutes and spin it into more articles. Just a few days ago I asked for three articles for three niche blogs which I only paid $15 for and had them before the day was done.

Now I do all this work 5 days a week most weeks. I don’t work Monday to Friday each week though. I set my own schedule so if I want to go fishing with friends on Tuesday I will either have a 4 day work week or I my work Saturday. That right there is a huge part of why I love the work from home opportunity.

Building PageRank For My Webpages

I am also a member of BuildMyRank.com where I can publish keyword focused articles linking to my money pages.

I started with BuildMyRank through their free trial where I could have 10 free links. I signed up and added my top 5 domains and then add an article for each domain along with 2 links. I created and had 6 articles published with my links included on sites with PR2-PR4. Once the articles were published it was only two or three days before they were indexed.

1. Today Spun Articles Have to Be 50% or More Unique

Of course I like to start with a quality article I’ve written. That has to be my starting point. From there it’s what I do with that quality and unique article.

For years it was acceptable to spin articles about 30% unique but that’s not the case today. I went from spinning articles to 30% up to 50%, then 60% and today I like to spin articles until they are pretty much 100% unique.

Note: The extra time I spend making my articles as close to 100% unique while keeping the focus of my articles is time well spent.

2. Don’t Spam Your Keywords, Keep The Density Low

When you have keywords on your mind and you’re using an article spinner like The Best Spinner it’s easy to go wild with them which tends to look spammy. That reminds me of a client I had that didn’t get the point about keyword density and send me an article that was more than 50% keywords.

In the years since I started my work from home business I have written a lot of articles and put a lot of focus on keyword density. In that time I have found that a keyword density of between 3 and 7 percent usually works fine, leaving lots of room for other words.

3. Don’t Spin Out Your Keywords

I used to use article networks for a lot of my content but as time went on the articles started becoming less quality and more quantity. I was getting the same articles day after day, even though I rejected them, except they were just another spun version of those I rejected.

That was taking more and more of my time until finally I just dropped them all together and started spinning my own content.

The worst thing about the articles is that most had their keywords spun into NON money keywords and as if that’s not bad enough they would even allow the title to spun to death. That was the last straw and I stopped using them.

You don’t have to be online to come up with new ideas and content. I always ask for niche magazines, like fishing, gardening or guitar magazines for my birthday and for Christmas. Then it’s great to just go sit in a park and read for a while. With or without my laptop.

What do I look for in magazines? The articles are great of course but I like checking out the ads as well because companies pay big bucks to have their ads in these magazines. This tells me they are most likely making money from these ads so I pay close attention to then to see what I can promote on my blogs. Why not let them do the research while you just capitalize on their work.

This doesn’t mean you copy their content as that would just be wrong. The magazines I read and scan for info gives me the ideas but I still need to rework those ideas to make them mine and so the content I create is unique.

Forums within your niche can be full of useful information you can spin into your own unique content.
