I think having multiple hobbies is awesome, although sometimes there’s just not enough time to enjoy them all. Pretty much any hobby can be turned into a work from home money maker, as long as people spend money on the hobby you plan to work. I make money with each hobby I mentioned at the beginning but I tried a few that I don’t spend money on and guess what, I didn’t make a cent.

Blogging about your hobbies and interests is how I make my living today. I get to work from home full time now which gives me even more time to enjoy my hobbies as I can drop what I’m doing most of the time and just go fishing or join a guitar jam, maybe even get out into my home garden, if it would stop raining.

I Started Blogging About My Hobbies

I didn’t start my work from home business to talk about my hobbies. No I started as an online marketer trying to sell ebooks with resell rights. I started my first hobby blog about backyard gardening as we were new to gardening and was eager to share what we were learning.

Before long I had people wanting to write guest posts for my blog and then I was contacted because someone wanted to pay me for a link on my blogroll. How cool was that. So I started adding a few affiliate links and started earning affiliate income from my gardening blog.

I didn’t even use a new domain for my garden blog, I just used an old domain that didn’t work for anything else. Once I started making money I immediately bought a new domain specifically for backyard gardening tips. In less that a year my target traffic and income flew right past my first garden blog. That’s when I started creating blogs for all the hobbies I spend money on myself.

If you enjoy fly fishing like I do it just makes CENTS to blog about it. Once you start getting targeted traffic you can monetize your blog, just like I did and start making money through affiliate marketing.

I also use LinkShare and CJ or Commission Junction for physical products that match my fishing, home gardening and other niche websites.

I use a few paid tools that have allowed me to start blogs and websites in new niches as well as to find the keywords I can make money with through affiliate marketing. The first program I purchased for this is Keyword Elite 2 which saves me so much time and time is money. The second program I purchased was Micro Niche Finder.

I’ve been a work from home marketer for more than a decade and have to say there are few things I’d rather being doing today. Of course being a paid sport fishing guide would be right up my alley but that’s not likely to be happening, so I’ll just keep enjoying working from home and go fishing any time I’d like.

My friends all thought I was crazy for quitting my day job to start a work from home business as one who makes money online. However, today they all wish they’d listened to me back then as they are still telling me today how much they hate their jobs.

I have friends who love to play guitar as much as I do but they all leave their party time for the weekends when they can sleep in if they feel the need. Me, well I am up for a guitar jam any day or night of the week as I don’t have that 9-5 thing going any more.

Online marketing isn’t a get rich quick idea, although you can stand to make a great living, it just takes time getting the ball rolling and the money coming in steadily. Most newbie work at home marketers haven’t got the patience or desire to work hard to earn their income and quit after their first failure.

My advice is to take the time required to find the right niche for you. This way you will not be lost for content after the first few articles you write.

My first mistake was not doing any research, at all. I knew what I wanted and went for it, Even a little research would have shown me I didn’t stand a chance in the niche I chose. The competition was too fierce and it would take me years to compete with them.

So glad I was too stubborn to give up and quit.

Eventually I came to realize I needed to do some research and that was when I changed everything I was doing and started over. I kept the two domains I had purchased though and today I use them and make money with them, but I did a lot of learning before that happened, as they were make money online sites and I really had no idea how to make money online, as my bank account showed.

A lot of people I talk to about blogging for profit say they don’t have a product to sell. The good news is that you don’t require a product of your own to make money online today and I am one person who blogs for profit yet I don’t have products of my own.

I am not always looking for digital products so I needed to find more affiliate networks that would supply me with all the physical products I would ever need.

Even though I have tried a lot of affiliate networks they are not all a like so I have dropped a lot of them. Those I listed above are a few I have been making money with and use them in multiple niches like gardening and acoustic guitar.

So what ever your niche is you are likely to be able to find an affiliate program. If you can’t find an affiliate program for your niche I would step back and rethink the niche you’ve chosen.

Life isn’t over just because it’s time to retire or is it? For some it’s certainly looking bleak in todays economy.

My wife and I love to travel however it could become tough to travel once we retire if we didn’t have an extra stream of income coming from our online blogs.

As the two of us are hitting sixty on our next birthdays we are close to retirement. Actually I have already retired and work from home home as a blogger. My wife has to hang in there for just one more year and we are free to do as we please for the rest of our life.

It’s sad to see all the people who are hitting retirement without a plan for their future. They just live day to day and are fearing retirement because they don’t have any security. A few of our friends have even been out of work for some time with little hope to ever be employed again.

I do have a plan in place. One where I work from home blogging about things I love to talk about and make money doing it. The plan is active and working right now. We both worked with computers for the past 25 years and have two computers at home.

Having a computer isn’t an uncommon thing today as most people have laptops in their homes. We just chose to make money with our computers through blogging about hobbies and interests. Currently I am the blogger but once my wife retires and we start traveling she will be blogging about our travels for my travel blog.
